Alaska: Explorer of the Sea - Day 4 - Skagway

Early on day four we arrived at Skagway. We were originally going to dock, but due to a landslide we had to be tendered to shore instead. We were all really impressed how smoothly everything went, especially since tendering wasn't originally planned, plus the fact that they were able to get everyone with excursions off the boat faster than scheduled.

I thought it was funny that you could see our giant ship behind the Small Boat Harbor sign!

Our plans for the day were simple: explore the town on foot. Our goal was to keep our days in port as inexpensive as possible, so we did a lot of walking and exploring on our own this trip. I hadn't looked at any maps, pictures, etc beforehand because for a while I thought we were stopping at Ketchikan. Obviously that was incorrect (though I'd love to go there someday). The town is really small, which made walking no problem, and has such a cozy quality to it.

Gotta hand over the camera sometimes to prove that I was there!

The awesome part about tiny little towns: being able to literally sit in the middle of the road and take photos to your hearts content.

Grumpy moose.

After getting back on the Explorer we went to Windjammers for lunch and then filled our afternoon with various activities. It started off with watching my dad edit some time-lapse videos he had taken then it was off to Wii Bowling again in The Tavern, then Bean Bag Toss, Logo Trivia, and History Trivia in the Star Lounge before heading to dinner.

I got a Turkey and BLT Salad, which was really good. For dessert they brought us out these rich little chocolate things which were A-MAZING! They also brought them several nights afterwards which made me really happy.

Since the cruise was only a few weeks away from Daniel and Aunt Carol's birthdays they brought out their desserts with a candle and Grandma had them bring a bowl of marachino cherries. On our last cruise, Daniel was brought a bowl full of them by surprise. But this time they upped that. When they brought the desserts they set town two bowls. And if that wasn't enough, a few minutes later they brought two more! Definitely didn't see that coming!

Our main server, Anthony, made a napkin candle as well. Alina was trying really hard to blow it out!

After dinner Lindsay and Jason, two of the performers, singing in the Promenade. Once that finished, I happened upon the "If You Know It, Dance It" Game Show in the Star Lounge. There were two teams, with two captains, and they had to try and get as many people to dance on their team as they could. They tallied up all the people at the end and the one with the most one. It was fun to watch!

Then some of us went to the Place Theater where Giovanni was performing A Tribute to Motown and Soul Train. He was awesome! His family was also sailing with us and his dad was a singer and he brought him on stage and he blew us all away. Then he finished with I Feel Good, which was one of the best parts of the whole performance. Then can you guess where we finished off the night?! Yup, at the piano bar. We pretty much lived at the Schooner Bar in the evenings.
